Abstract: Vascular cognitive impairment is a cerebrovascular-related disorder with high prevalence and disability, imposing a substantial burden on patients, families, and society. The Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathway is involved in multiple pathophysiological processes relevant to vascular cognitive impairment and has emerged as a highly promising therapeutic target. This review summarizes recent advances in elucidating the mechanisms by which the Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathway modulates vascular cognitive impairment, aiming to clarify its critical role and provide new insights to guide future basic research and clinical translation in this field.

Key words: vascular cognitive impairment, Sonic Hedgehog signal transduction, angiogenesis, remyelination, synaptic plasticity
