Abstract: Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a chronic non-specific inflammatory condition of unknown etiology and poorly understood pathogenesis. Its treatment remains challenging, and the disease was once termed “green cancer”.Patients require long-term or even lifelong treatment, which imposes a substantial burden on both individuals and society.Traditional Chinese medicine has demonstrated efficacy and unique advantages in treating IBD.In recent years, numerous studies have revealed that the gut microbiota plays a key role in the development and progression of IBD.This article reviews the interactions between the gut microbiota and IBD,and explores the current state of research on traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of IBD from the perspective of regulating the gut microbiota. We aim to provide new therapeutic ideas and strategies for the clinical management of IBD,and to enable traditional Chinese medicine to play a greater role in future therapeutic strategies and drug development for this disease.
